A murder investigation is underway after a newborn baby was found dead outside a house in Suffolk.
Police were called to Wilbury House on Norwich Road in Ipswich at around 12.35pm on Saturday (December 9) where the tragic discovery was made. Paramedics also rushed to the scene but sadly, the baby was pronounced dead on arrival.
The death is being treated as unexplained and two men along with a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder. The Ipswich Star stated that they remain in police custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Superintendent Jane Topping said: "This is a very sad and distressing incident." She also urged people not to speculate on social media about the circumstances surrounding "this tragic event."
Detective Topping added: "At this time, our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death is in its early stages."
A police cordon is in place within Norwich Road as enquiries take place.
Police have been there throughout the afternoon and a forensics van arrived later on, an eye witness said.
Wilbury House is understood to have been used as a hotel and a house of multiple occupancy in the past, the Ipswich Star added.
In 2004, police responded to reports of up to 20 male asylum seekers protesting at the house at the length of time it had taken to find them permanent accommodation.
The men protested for three-and-a-half hours before going inside the hostel, the BBC reported in August of that year.
The property is still listed as a HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) on the Ipswich Borough Council website.
